This historic light is a prototypical tourelle, similar to hundreds of small cast iron lighthouses built in France for installation throughout the country and around the world. Designed by Gustave Eiffel for ease of assembly and relocation, it was exhibited at the Exposition Universelle de Paris in 1867. It was relocated in 1879, when the mole was extended.
