On a trip back home in September 2005 from Southern California I decided to take the long way and see part of the southern section of the Sierra Nevada. My route was to take Hwy. 14 through Mojave and then joint up with Hwy. 395. I spent the night in Lone Pine, California hoping to catch Mr. Whitney in the morning light. I was astounded to discover that between Lone Pine and the Mt. Whitney Portal is an area called the Alabama Hills. Driving through those Hills was like entering all the Lone Ranger Westerns of my childhood. Many of them were filmed there as were many Sci-fi pictures. I then backtracked and took Hwy. J41 over the Sierras into Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park. There aren't many images from this part of the trip, yet, I was astounded by the beauty of these two parks. I hope that I can go back and spend some time in them and learn how to convey the awe that I felt there. I then crossed over Hwy. 180 to Interstate 5 and home. This gallery is meant to show what I hope are some of the unusual things I saw, rather than to be a descriptive travelogue.
