The reason is ask is i use the 100-300 f4 with sigma 1.4tc, AF works fine, i am considering sigma x2 tc, this will mean effectrively f8, i am trying to decide how well it will work, i shoot action which is a worry !

Of course, there is no way you can make D70 autofocus at f12.6 ! Even with 1.4x TC AF is impossible. Actually, Sigma TCs simply switch off your camera AF when used with slow lenses. If using Kenko TCs, AF is engaged, but not managing to autofocus with success. The only out-of-spec" combo I managed to make working is D200 + Sigma 50-500 + Kenko 1.4x TC. This gives you effective f9.0 and working AF but with lots of hunting.
