How we got around without an automobile: we took a train, city bus, and intercity bus from Milan to Kobarid, then another intercity bus from Kobarid to Ljubljana. We took a train from Ljubljana to Zagreb, but it wasn't this newer one, unfortunately. Note that it is an electric.
