Looking across the Triple Bridge

The castle, again. The Triple Bridge has one span for vehicular trafic and two for pedestrians. It's cool in that the spans are not quite parallel, but are like spokes emanating from a hub. It's in the center of town, as well, so it is a busy place. I was standing in Presaren Square (named after France Presaren, Slovenia's greatest poet).

The architect Joze Plecnik (yoh-zhe plech-neek) added the two pedestrian spans in 1931; the center span was already about 100 years old. Plecnik designed many beautiful buildings (for example, the State Library) and public areas (for example, Park Tivoli and the banks of the Ljubljanica River) in Ljubljana. He studied under Otto Wagner and was from the postmodern school, for those keeping score.
