It was hot. We had been travelling for about 24 hours now, and had 6 more. As it was, we took a city bus in Gorizia to the border and then walked across. We walked to the intercity bus station in Nova Gorice and made our way to Kobarid.

Hint: when travelling in Italy get reservations with first class train tickets! We followed Rick Steves' advice and bought first class... and then stood in the aisle until we found a seat in second class. We didn't get reservations because we barely got there in time and bought our tickets from a machine.
