When I was a kid we used to call these (cormorants) SHAGs... so here is one on a stick RIGHT?
I think it is a mum cos it is about to build a nest!
Not easy to get close to so you need a BIG lens. I didn't so here I am with a 2X on my 200mm lens trying to sneak up on her! Canon EOS 20D and a stack of judicious cropping in PS retrieved this pic.
I don't know who chewed off her wing feather?

A very fine shot, and a good technical explanation. You did very well even without a long lens.
