October 22, 2007

It happened today - a Home Ec. teacher's worst nightmare: a mouse ran across the floor during my class this morning. I've been at my current school for 5 years now, and in those 5 years I have never had a mouse; never seen droppings, nothing. I keep my classroom very clean, and I have my students keep the kitchens spotless as well. I have very high expectations partly due to the fact that I don't want critters in my classroom. Today, one decided to pay a visit. I guess it wanted to see how to make Italian Bread Wedges :).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not afraid of mice. In fact, the little guy this morning was kind of cute. Problem is, mice don't belong in kitchens. Not in my kitchens anyway.

I made a quick call to the office and had our caretaker come down to my classroom, which is in the basement. I explained the problem, and he brought a couple traps to set up. I watched with camera in hand for a while, hoping the mouse would make an appearance but he did not. Therefore, you're stuck with a photo of the trap, sans mouse, as my Photo-of-the-day.

Must be pest week. Nice to know you take your camera to work too and share another side of life. (And what happened to those spring traps?)
