Beehive hut 2 Dingle Peninsula

An example of a clochán, or a beehive hut. These beehive huts have been constructed of layered rows of drystone so that each layer overhangs the previous one creating a vault. This building technique is known as corbelling. Clocháns were commonly used by monks to meditate but some also seem to have been used as dwelling places by small settlements of people.

Great shot and explanation. What they could do back then with 'primitive' tools is really impressive.

All the mod-cons for a monk I suppose :)
