It will be 71 years since the SS Richard Montgomery sank off sheerness on 20 august 2015.
The wreck is safe to clear but not to leave beginning to break up becoming more dangerous every day.
Could this be the reason nobody has done anything about it. Only a matter of time.

The normalcy bias, or normality bias, refers to a mental state people enter when facing a disaster. It causes people to underestimate both the possibility of a disaster occurring and its possible effects. This may result in situations where people fail to adequately prepare for a disaster, and on a larger scale, the failure of governments to include the populace in its disaster preparations.
“The assumption that is made in the case of the normalcy bias is that since a disaster never has occurred then it never will occur. It can result in the inability of people to cope with a disaster once it occurs. People with a normalcy bias have difficulties reacting to something they have not experienced before. People also tend to interpret warnings in the most optimistic way possible, seizing on any ambiguities to infer a less serious situation.

John Cooper: That was very British of you. It was in fact so British, that i read it in a British accent! And I'm now writing this, narrating it in a British accent!

what the hell why would someone go that close if just a heavy wave can trigger the bombs!

My grandfather saw this ship sink from his duty point in the dockyard.
We used to go on pleasure boat rides "Right out and round the wreck" in the '60s.
No-one told us there was a thousand tons of ammo still on board!

Just would like to say that Ron Angle's comment is one of the most terrifically hilarious things I have ever read. It was truly brilliant and had me laughing for what felt like hours.

I know we'll never meet, but you've made yourself a truly great friend.

Another great picture of the Old Wreck; just wish I knew its true history.

This must have been before the exclusion zone could not get this close legally nowadays.
very silly thing to do, could have got propeller fouled on loose cable.
see www.ssrichardmontgomery.com for up-to-date info links about the wreck.

I remember days of swimming out to the wreck. Many happy memories as a child of chalet hols, cream teas at the post office at Warden - sadly no longer there! Remebering the pill box that's now half way down the cliff at Warden. 'Tesco's' was a 'funfair' and the 'sand pit was for 'horse rides' i belive a man called something like Summersgill or Fothersgill, he owned a large stable and I had horse riding lessons there. But he set one horse off and I was galloping at about *** well, fast when you were five! Some happy 37years ago!

The best photo of the wreck I have ever seen.
