Beautiful.

I wonder if that's woodworm in them too!

Great find, looks dangerous. Photographically speaking, I would have cropped off a bit off the left, or moved nearer for a shot, so that the trees weren't so much in the center. Nice shot nonetheless.

LOL! @ Felicia!

holy cow...a critter farts in the woods too close to one of these and it's going to be a bad day for that critter!!!
Melanie13-Aug-2004 17:55
Surprised beavers haven't discovered them. (Or any other wood eating critter if not near water)

Woodpeckers, especially, need these dead trees to nest; if these were in some urban area the safety people would have cut them long ago....at least the safety people in the midwest, where I lost two fabulous snags that the downy woodpeckers were using and they were on industrial land behind my house.

wow - nice

Almost like the feet and legs of a rusty giant. Nice capture!

lovely soft shot, I find the decaying trees quite sad.
Katie Chew13-Aug-2004 14:33
Amazing shot. One of our high wind storms would probably take these trees down.
Guest 13-Aug-2004 13:57
I like the way they "stand" in the middle. No rule of three here.
Jude Marion13-Aug-2004 13:03
Amazing that they are still standing!
Guest 13-Aug-2004 12:57
nice mood. looks like they've been satisfying some critters' appetites.

That's the kind of tree a good hurricane would take down. I love Yvonne's comment below. It will give me more respect for these old trees.

If you found these in northern Australia you'd probably make a didgeridoo with them.. that's what's prized by the didge makers, a trunk eaten out by termites. Interesting photo.

WOW Larry, this is so wonderful shot! I love it!
Did you add some effect for that wonderful look or is that the original shot?
cheers
katwilkens13-Aug-2004 12:18
I wouldn't stand too close to them in a strong wind!
petesie13-Aug-2004 11:19
They serve a great purpose for wildlife and photographers. I like the photo.

Looks like whiteants have been feasting on these Larry. You know if they were planted beside your house they would have come down on your roof...no problem !! :>)
