Between a pothole (left) and an alcove

Arches National Park (Moab, Utah) view map

This is in a formation I call the “alcove blob.” It lies slightly north of Delicate Arch.

Joe Tripod, whose shadow is visible in this late afternoon photo, is no
blob, slob, or nabob. He supports my camera with finesse and rigidity.

Larry, you must know by now that Joe prefers not to be the center of attention, as that would conflict with his mission. Although he casts a giant shadow here, he prefers to cast none at all. He understands that certain lighting conditions require that his presence be revealed in a photo and he accepts this as a necessary evil.

Joe is always living in your shadow. 'bout time he had his own.

Joe is the smartest tripod I've ever met.
