This is part-way up an old gravel road that joins the Silver Island Backcountry
Byway. The road dead-ends a little ways above my car. Tetzlaff Peak is at left.
The lumpy foreground hill at right is Peak 4944, which I hiked up in 2002. It was
on that hike that I first became curious about the gully route in the background.
From here I went straight up the gullies onto a plateau that is hidden, then up to the north
ridge of the mountain. The ice axe was a "just in case" tool---I didn't need it at all.
Joe Tripod, my photographic assistant in the field, ignored my anticipation and stood very still.
