Self-portrait at start of hike: the Gully of Destiny awaits

Tetzlaff Peak, Silver Island Mountains, Utah

This is part-way up an old gravel road that joins the Silver Island Backcountry
Byway. The road dead-ends a little ways above my car. Tetzlaff Peak is at left.
The lumpy foreground hill at right is Peak 4944, which I hiked up in 2002. It was
on that hike that I first became curious about the gully route in the background.

From here I went straight up the gullies onto a plateau that is hidden, then up to the north
ridge of the mountain. The ice axe was a "just in case" tool---I didn't need it at all.

Joe Tripod, my photographic assistant in the field, ignored my anticipation and stood very still.

Larry, my Michigan Comment Translator is again out of service (no surprise: it was made in Putney, London, England). Would you please be so kind as to re-phrase your missive so that I can respond to it with a sliver of intelligence? Thanks. :-)
