The Silver Island Mountains begin almost at Wendover and extend about 35 miles in a northeasterly direction. Their northern portion is named "Crater Island." The latter is separated from the main range by Donner-Reed Pass, a place traveled in the mid-1800s by the ill-fated Donner party. Running parallel to, and east of, the range is the Bonneville Salt Flats.
