20th October 2007 - clay pots

After a week of dashing around, stress and other painful things, this weekend is going to be devoted to nothing but me, him, them and our home.

We’ve been to the dreaded Trago twice, carted back a dozen 70 litre bags of compost (peat free of course – what do you expect from an old hippy like me?) and finished off our herb garden – all it needed then was some herbs so I’ve been to the Duchy, clutching my garden centre vouchers, a birthday pressie from my folks and bought a load of herbs.

In the past, I’ve been guilty of buying things just because they’re there – not so any more – I have found I never used the Rue, the Winter Savoury etc that was in my last herb garden so this time I’m concentrating on stuff we’ll actually eat! Chives, garlic chives, several thymes, several sages, several marjorams, oregano, rosemary, tarragon are all now purchased and planted. I will also add dill, basil and coriander but these will have to wait for spring before they go in now.

To be honest, these pots are not from the herbs, they’ve been hanging around in the veggie garden, exactly as they are depicted here, for a couple of months since I emptied them of courgette plants. DM and I have both looked at them a number of times before today but neither of us has got around to it yet!

So, they make the cut for today’s shot on the basis that they’re all I’ve got and I must be honest, I like them!

Last year, Hot Rod Duck made his first appearance - I'll bet he didn't realise he was soon to be a soap opera star!
