OK OK I’m guilty of thinking ‘oh blimey, it’s five o’clock, what can I do for a photo without too much effort?’
Yep – it’s true. I’m being sort-of lazy, except that I’ve not really been lazy at all. I’ve spent the day working – making more apple and chilli jelly, this time with ginger – yum! I’m beginning to feel obsessed about this new-found pleasure. I’m not even sure that it’s not just the completely gorgeous colour of the juice that’s rocking my boat. However, I’ve picked up the last of the apples – these ones are all windfalls and they’re now straining through a tea towel over a bowl and sometime over the next few days, I’ll make them into more jelly!
Then I picked what is probably the penultimate crop of tomatoes and have roasted them in the oven with chilli and garlic and they’re going to be used as the base for meals over the next few days. I can’t tell you what a wrench it’s going to be going back to tinned ones in a couple of weeks time when we’re finally out of the home-grown. Mind you, when my plants got the blight, I didn’t think I’d get any tomatoes at all and it’s only been because of taking Geoff Hamilton’s tip of copper fungicide treatment and my friend Teresa’s suggestion of calcium that has meant I’ve cropped anything this year.
Finally I have turned over half of one of my half a dozen vegetable beds and planted it with garlic and onions, ready for next year. I do like this plan of spreading the workload by planting some crops before Christmas. I’ve got broad beans to go in and more onions but for today, I think that’s enough.
BTW - JohnnyJag has a shot of one of these from a few months back - when I have time to search back for it, I'll link to it (sorry John - am in a dash!) Though I am now up-to-date.
Last year i was satisfying my appetite for destruction!
