31st August 2005 - bad dreams do come true

…..but not quite as they seem (thankfully).

I have said before that sometimes I suffer from bad dreams. Last night I had two. One of them came true and caused me the most stressful day I can recall in a long time (thankfully not as stressful that of the good folks of both Baghdad whose pilgrimage ended so cruelly or the those of the Southern States for whom Katrina has caused such misery) – more about that one on another occasion, suffice to say (for now) that I woke in a cold sweat worrying about it and when I got up and made a phone call to set my mind at rest, my dream had indeed come true.

The other was more hideous and more emotional and also came true though not quite as it had happened in my dream.

You see, I dreamed my baby girl got run over. My little precious bundle of joy, Rosie. The dream was so real. I saw her run out into the road, heard the squeal of brakes and heard a sickening thud of an impact. This has been a constant source of fear for me since I first had Toby and while waiting to cross a road with him and my Mum, we saw a little dog run out and get killed by a lorry.

I have been sitting here this afternoon, beside myself with worry about how to resolve the issue from my other dream, tearful and fretful. I’ve tried to use the time constructively on the basis that worrying won’t help us it’ll only make me more tired and stressed. So, I’ve been getting my diary up to date and had literally just finished yesterday’s entry when I heard that squeal of brakes and that sickening thud.

But Rosie was on the wall out the front, I could see her and she was safe. My stomach was churning as I looked down the street to see that our neighbour’s dog, also a Rosie had run into the road into the path of a car. I don’t know what the thud was, it may have been a workman, working on next door’s roof dropping his tools or one of the kids over the road dropping something but fortunately Rosie wasn’t hit and had run off up the road terrified.

The poor chap in the car was mortified as was the other Rosie’s Mum, Steph, who thought both Rosie and Ziggy were safely in the house. She ran up the road to find her and came back with her in her arms, in perfect safety. Meanwhile DM had got Ziggy by the collar and was hanging on to him so he couldn’t get into trouble.

I can’t believe that both of my bad dreams came so frighteningly true but they did.

This is my Rosie, safe and sound but Lensbaby’d up to look dream-like and scary – I think I got the dream-like but not the scary…..

A year ago I was celebrating my Dad's retirement and the year before we were walking the dogs!

It's a beautiful shot, and I'm very glad that she - and her namesake - are OK. That's a bit spooky though!

Your dreams sound scary, your dogs, no chance.
Could you dream me up some lottery numbers?
