I've been working at home today after a frustrating week last week trying to write proposals and journal articles while in the mayhem of our offices, trying to fit them in between all those flying client visits and our monthly Board Meeting.
David is once again my superhero because his former life in IT means he's a network wizard and has installed a VPN (virtual private network) for me so I can communicate with my office and colleagues as though I'm at my own desk - all I need to do is plug my company laptop into a network point at home and 'hey presto' I am on my office server, using the network and email with ease.
I've been in my office from 8.30am until now with my head down working on a particularly complex proposal with many 'unknowns' so each stage depends on the outcome of the previous stage - this means I've needed to write it....
....if x happens in stage 1 the we recommend y as stage 2 but if a happens in stage 1 then we recommend b in stage 2......
So I've been looking at my PC, thinking through all these complex scenarios and I leaned back on my chair late this afternoon and noticed the sunlight in the garden and the hens foraging and I thought 'what a privilege' - how many people can look out of their office and see such a fab sight. Not many, I'll bet! Oh, and whatever anyone else may feel, it's certainly better than the fire station yard.
