'We need to hire a van' I said....'can you organise it?'
'Yes', he said 'but you'll have to drive it'
'Why' I said
'Because my licence is away having the address changed'.....so I gulped and said OK with terror in my heart.
I loathe driving (I've mentioned that before). I do it through necessity rather than any kind of desire to drive. Driving anything other than my very familiar car is always a challenge that I find it hard to raise to. Driving a great big transit van was just about the last thing I wanted to do on my precious Sunday.
So I drove and we worked, heaving furniture, white goods and other bits and pieces into and out of the van all day. Cali (David's ex) turned up worried stiff there was a burglary taking place so her and her new David were a pleasant distraction and a good excuse for a cuppa!
We've now got a house stuffed to the gunnels with stuff, Jo has a garage full of all the furniture we didn't want so she can move into a flat of her own soon and we're both completely exhausted. But the good news is that Ascot is almost clear - just some cleaning to do now and we can lock the door for the last time. That's kind of sad in a way but also a huge relief.
I think it's a 'feet up on the sofa' night again. It's alright going out of the house from time to time but we really know why we like to live like hermits now!
