LOVEBUGS (Plecia nearctica) Adults in copula

Palmer Ranch - Sarasota, Florida

These insects are actually flies (O-Diptera). Adults spend their time sipping nectar from flowers and searching for mates and mating while hovering in the air (female on left).

I am a Master Gardener Plant Doctor in Martin County, Stuart, Fla. Preparing displays
for the Martin County Fair, I came across your Love Bug Photos. My hope had been to
print these and use for them for the display boards about questions we as Plant Doctors get. Often I am questioned about your "bug friends". Honoring your copy right, I do at least want to thank you for the great picture/s, and I know if nothing else I can use these on line when I am in the Master Gardener's office and show people that way. If there are any leeways for printing these out within your restrictions, please let me know. (Oh, and I love bugs, and I look forward to Entomology classes later this year.) Susan Riffle,
Master Gardener Plant Doctor
