You couldn't think up a bug like this! Yet here it is, a common insect in mid-summer, lying in wait on a variety of plants, for unsuspecting prey to land. Their common name comes from just this activity, waiting to ambush another insect. They can tackle bees, wasps, butterflies, spiders, you name it, and size doesn't matter. I've seen them with insects three times their size, which is about about 8-12 mm.
