Spiny shieldbug (Picromerus bidens)

Reveler Conservation Area

A large stinkbug with the characteristic spiny 'shoulders' of the predatory Picromerus genus. If you are plagued with tent caterpillars you might want to welcome this stinkbug because it particularly likes that species for food! It also eats other caterpillars including those we might wish it didn't, such as those of butterflies.
