Sword Fisherman

Always a fairly active industry at the Vineyard, the sword fisherman has become an endangered speices. There are still a couple of old island families that go out to the Banks, but many factors, including long liners, size of boat restrictions, etc have made it almost impossible to make a living. This is a wooden tribute to them, at Menemsha.

To see what my brother and I caught today, see here. http://www.pbase.com/kleaf/marthas_vineyard Warning: it wasn't a swordfish, but I'll be having fresh fish for dinner tomorrow night! 60 lbs of fluke, most weighing between 1 1/2 lbs and 3 lbs, we had a pretty good day.

I didn't think anyone did sword fishing anymore, a very interesting story and great fish story, congrats on you catch. I see you also have the DRebel, how do you like yours and how long have you had it? I like mine, but do find that my pictures all seem to come out dark, any ideas on this??

Excellent!

It's lovely. And appropriate, given the info you provided, that it's standing alone in a field of unmowed grass. Almost like it's fading into oblivion too. Very nice photo.

Very unusual sculpture. Looks like you had fun out there on the Island.

I love this setting for this wonderful setting. That beautiful sky is the perfect background. I envy you your day fishing.

What a wonderful sculpture! Very nice photo. Sad about the fishermen. Our seafood industry is having a hard time here too.

Oh, after I saw this picture I said to myself "You got to go fishing this weekend" :) Great image!

Nice composition. I like the way the sword fish mirrors the spear. Lovely blues and greens in this, and I like the hint of wildflowers in the background.

Wow, what a great find. The statue is very interesting and original, and I like the beautiful sky in the background.
