I know this street very well. In the 1940's, during the Winters,I would go door to door on Oakland Ave.and offer to shovel snow after school and on weekends. Was hard work even at that age. The driveways were long and the back garage door areas/apron were large. It was really bad when we had one of the 'notorious' Buffalo lake effect snow storms. But it paid good for that period of time. Used to make anywhere between $4.00 and $6.00 after school during to week and up to $20.00 dollars during the weekend.

I used to go trick or treating on Oakland St. as a kid on Halloween. The house on the right was a cloister and a nun would give you a huge loaf of banana bread- on Halloween! I can't think of a more spectacular group of gilded age houses anywhere than this quiet, west Buffalo street- beautiful!
