Graduated in 1951. I notice a "Hargrave" in the comments section. Is that any relation to "Joyce Hargrave"? I remember her but we weren't in any classes together. I volunteered at the library before start of class and during study hours. Anyone remember Mr. Israel? He taught algebra and would munch on dried fruits in between classes. Lots of memories - especially walking to school through deep winter snow storms and icy sidewalks. Not many "snow days" way back then!

HaHa...I can remember it was called "The ___house on the Hill". Whether it deserved that name I donot know. No matter, I wanted to go to it but at that time one had to go to the HS in their district. 1943 when everything was so different !!

I have very fond memories of going to that school. I remember the marble stairs, and if you ran up them you would always bang your shin bone. It was a very fine school and I'm glad it is still in use.

I am trying to research this wonderful school that my 98 year old grandmother remenises about, She attended must be early 1920's...My Nanny was born & raised in Buffalo the travelled later on in life when she married. We are all now in Canada... My Nanny maybe 98 but you would not know it as her wits are all there. She rant's and rave's about being a cheerleader at Fosdick and does her chants and I have this AMAZING priceless video of my Nan doing her F-O-F-O Fosd D-i-d-i-dick chant and her cheers that I fall off my seat everytime I watch it...I must try to contact someone from the school just to show them the memories the school has left on my Nanny...and to see her light up and bringing back her Ole memories with such cheer & happiness just is remarkable and I like to thank Fosdick-Masten for raising & educating a WONDERFUL ONE IN A MILLION GRANDMOTHER...Only thing is video is dark but you just wouldn't understand how priceless this really is...and the story behind it as I was caring for my Mother at the time who had just come to stay at my home to recoperate & my Nanny lives with my Mom so I nursed both my Mom & Nanny and what a time we had....Thank you for the EVER LASTING MEMORIES YOU HAVE DISTILLED IN MY GRANDMOTHER'S HEART & HEAD....

Sometime around 2007-2008.The Buffalo Public School was doing renovation work at all of their schools,in order to access technology well. While digging up the best street side of Fosdick-Masten high school, workers discovered human remains on the site,it was the remains of a man, woman, and a child. The remains were reburied in Buffalo Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Never was a swimming pool @ Masten High. School was built from the same plans of it's rival Lafayatte high. Except for the white Marble. There is an active alumni assocation which still has scholarships for deserving students. It is now ranked in the top ten in the U.S.A.

FOSDICK MASTEN DID ave a swimming pool on the top floor and i graduated in 1975. THE TOP FLOOR WAS CLOSED OFF AFTER THAT ACCIDENT. IT HAPPENED IN THE SIXTIES.

It's nice to see that the school is still in use. I attended there 1972-1975. I remember the long walks from Riley and Jefferson Streets. I did not graduate, become a single mom. But I did study at home to get my GED within a year of my graduating class.

Now, I have a MBA and my current employer wants a high school transcript for their records. That's funny, I'm almost 50. I remember the hallways of this building just like it was yesterday. Life was easier then. It's funny how we take being a teenager for granted.
I did an internet search to found this site. Nice to see it.

Anyone now where to get a transcript from the 70's?

I remember this school very well. In the early 1940's my mother owned and operated a delicatessen that was located on the corner of Mulberry and East North Sts. which was right across the street from this school. At that time the black top area shown in the gallery photo was a dirt play field. During those early war years, in the Summer months area industrial plants used to have softball teams playing games every night after dinner. I even played a pre-sesson high school scrimmage football game against the Masten High team in 1951. The school was then a general education coed school.

yeah thats a long standing rumor, i know that the origins involve one of two things. 1) the school is built on a cemetary which was excavated and moved when construction began (true). 2) the girl died in city honors swimming pool and haunts the building, (false, city honors never had/has a swimming pool). either way its simply a rumor because ive been almost everywhere in that school, included places "off limits" and never found anything weird.

There was a rumor that Girl's Vocational (Fosdick/Masten) was haunted by the ghost of a girl who was accidently killed somehow at the school.
