Used to go to Cole's in the late 70's early 80's when I still lived in Buffalo. It's been around so long! I remember my mom telling me that her and my dad used to go there on dates in the 40's!

I had a major crush on Carole all through high school but was too afraid of being rejected by the most beautiful girl in the entire school to ever act on it or even tell her. Still remember walking back to my chair after getting my diploma in 1975 realizing I had 4 years to ask her out and never got up the nerve once. Three years later in the back at Coles on a very busy night, she walked in with a bunch of her friends looking even more gorgeous than she did in high school. The 18 year old girl I remembered was now a 21 year old woman in a halter top and hot pants. I thought I was going to die. They came and sat with us and we had a little class reunion. Carole sat next to me and I was older and more confident then (and no doubt I had fuel) and so I told her how I was in pain all through high school, told her the whole story of how I was so in love with her. She got a little choked up and said I was her One That Got Away! She said she didn’t dare tell me how she felt because she thought I didn’t like her. She was engaged and got a little misty eyed over what never was because we’d both been too shy. When we all left she had me walk her to her car across the street on Elmwood. We shared a single, slightly sad, very passionate kiss and said goodbye. I never saw her again. No idea what happened to her or where she is now. I’m happily married to my soulmate for 30 years but still can find that melancholy feeling thinking back to my hs days. How cool it would be if she saw this. If you do, Carole, I hope life’s been kind all these years. And I’m sorry I was such an idiot!

This is Bob SPRENGER who never missed a night/or day on the corner stool here in 3years. In fact Jim Parker offered to give me that stool. For real. Many many good times had there with the bartemders Peggy, Curly, Tommy, Buddy, and of course who will ever forget the man in the tux....Martin!!! I am now in Florida and think of the many times my light blue MGA was parked in front of this place. It will always be #1 for me as I will get back some day to savor a roast beef on K...and remember the days when I knew everyone seated at the bar. Did you know it used to be an auto dealership??? Oh well back to the pool . Friends who read this can e mail me at sparkeytennis@yahoo.com.

Coles was an underage preppy haven for some of us in the late 70's. When I was 17, on some nights we'd crawl up the strip starting at Mr. Goodbar, then Coles, then No Names and usually close out the night at Casey's. Sometimes we would stop in at Bullfeather's on the way to No Names.

Back in 1978, my dad, Ed Cole (no relation to the restaurant)took me to lunch at Cole's when I was frustrated with Nursing School and wanted to quit. He talked me out of it which gave me great encouragement to finish and graduate. I am glad he had that talk with me at Cole's, I am eternally grateful. Thanks Dad!
