St. Vincent's Female Orphan Asylum

1138 Ellicott St. Buffalo

This was the school and dormitory building of St. Vincent's Female Orphan Asylum, built 1898-99; designed by Buffalo's Green and Wicks. It's one of several buildings that made up the complex bounded by Main, Riley and Ellicott Streets. It now stands vacant, with a sign on it that indicates that it may be redeveloped into apartments.

Whenever I was a naughty little girl, my parents would drive by and say, see that's the bad girls school, you better be good.

This is a great location. I have several shots of the interior in my "urban decay' gallery.

I am doing research on all of the orphanages that were once in the Buffalo Area. If anybody has any information, please contact me at buffalo.orphanages@adelphia.net. Thank you.
