did you know that Emus squat to drink?

i hadn’t really thought about how Emus drink, until I saw this Emu taking a drink
from a roadside puddle at Exmouth a couple of weeks ago.
As you are probably aware the Emu is a flightless bird, so it walked up to this puddle,
squatted and proceeded to “slurp up” water with it’s beak and drink it.

i was lucky enough to photograph it mid-slurp.
