Here Melanie found yet another set of pink flowers along the trail. These pendulous clusters of deep corolla tubes pointing down toward the ground were visited by hummingbirds. But unfortunately we were never close enough to one while a bird was there to capture a nice image. On a few occasions in Ecuador we found a hummingbird "trap line feeding," or following a series of flowers through the forest, nectaring at each in turn, completing the trap line just in time for the first flower to have produced more nectar so the hummer could begin the trap line over. Very interesting behaviour if you have the time to sit and watch for it.
