I like the image. And, I suspect too that using levels to lighten the face would ruin the jacket and hat. I tend to be a Shoot/sharpen/post sort myself so I am often amazed at what some can do with photoshop, but it's beyond me.

Thanks for the point about the shadow. As this was a candid in strong sunlight there was no time to set up a reflector, and flash was not permitted in this environment. I did use one pass of the dodge tool but a second produced the milky effect. I suspect using levels on a selection would produce an unnatural effect.
