This locomotive, designed by Daniel Gooch, was the first to be constructed entirely at the Swindon Works in April 1846.
Completed within 13 weeks of its order, the Engine was built to run on Isambard Kingdom Brunel's 'Broad Guage' lines.
It soon proved to be a powerful locomotive capable of hauling heavy passenger trains.
Weighing 29 tons, the original engine survived until 1870 when it was scrapped having run over 370,000 miles.
