20051202 In the Sunshine (View at Original)

South Marston, Wiltshire, England

After the recent grey, gloomy weather including 24 hours of gales, we had a brief glimpse of the sun. And how lucky was I to have my camera with me and a scene to capture.

I hope these brave young Wiltshire lads, remembered here, had a few days in the sunshine before dying as young as 19. What a waste! And still we don't learn ......

Nice image and sentiments John. Ironically, the village boasted a factory for the likes of Lancaster and Stirling bombers as well as Spitfires in the next war.

Most like a monumental statue set
In everlasting watch and moveless woe
Till itself crumble to the dust beneath.
Touch it; the marble eyelids are not wet:
If it could weep, it could arise and go.
~Elizabeth Browning
