High tide at Putney, again.

Putney Embankment view map

If you park your car on the public slipway to avoid paying parking fee's, you really should take notice of the dozens of signs warning about high tides.

No, if he bought a boat he'd probably do this:http://www.pbase.com/john_cooper/image/69823343

And I don't think the insurance company will be coughing up any funds for replacement either.

Dave, the very sad thing about this car. It is a Saab, 14 years old and in immaculate condition. The owner had obviously spent a lot of time and effort looking after it.
Then they left it on a public slipway on one of the highest tides of the year.
Just to save a few pounds parking money.

"Corrosion while you wait."

Larry, all of the 10 billion signs in London serve a purpose, they make some people very rich.

Dave,
When these cars are out of the water they are vitually useless/scrap.
None of the instruments will work, the wiring corrodes away at every joint, water gets in the engine, sometimes the fuel tank, the axle.
This water is muddy, it is almost impossible to clean out the inside.
A friend of mine accidentally drove into the sea, totally submerged his car, you could see it rotting away as you watched.

Exzim,
A bit of flooding on some roads from Putney up to Richmond is normal and acceptable.
The Thames Flood Barrier is only raised when there is a risk of large areas of London being flooded, especially the underground train system.

Derek, this happens often, while taking these photos a man spoke to me, complaining that he had only come here to watch a car float away, and none did.
Dave Beedon07-Nov-2006 07:43
Maybe the owner was hoping for a free car wash.

John, I thought there was some miracle type of gate system in the Thames estuary that prevented high tides in London. ??

Are you saying that some signs serve a purpose? Nice, humorous shot. Voted.
