Long Beach has a 2¼ mile long boardwalk (with a clearly marked bicycle lane) first built in 1914 with the help of some elephants.
Note: The boardwalk was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy in late October 2012. It will be replaced by a new more storm resistant one.
