Bogaya Monastery, Inwa (Dec 06)

We visited only the Bogaya Monastery in Inwa. The monastery was built in 1834, and is an all-teak building with high patios and dark chambers, supported on 267 posts of teak trunks which hold up the raised floor and low ceiling. The doors, balustrades and railings of the monastery are ornately carved in traditional motifs.

I do not remember being particularly impressed by the place. Maybe because we had already visited the (not too dissimilar) teakwood monastery in Mandalay the day before, as well as the Myoe Daung Monastery in Bagan, but probably also because we were all feeling queasy after the bone-shaking horse-cart ride. Almost the whole sky in this picture is blown highlights; well, you win some and lose some...
