I took a quick walk down by the local lake today. The weather was cooperating more than could be expected for a November day. I had my down jacket with me which was thankfully left in the car.
I happened upon this scene and just kept on staring at it. For some reason, the reflection of the branch seemed so much more real than the branch itself. Perhaps it was the light. I'm not sure, but it caught me by surprise and caught my imagination.
There have been so many stories... movies, books, or otherwise... about mystical worlds beyond a mirror. The alternate worlds are not always opposites or "mirror images" of our own. Even the planet of Bizzaro (the villain who is supposed to be the opposite of Superman) is not an exact opposite of Earth. This preserves the mystery of the world beyond the mirror. On the surface, the reflection seems clear. But, it is not until you break the surface that you discover what truly lies beyond.
Today, I was not willing to accept the wetness that would be involved in exploring further and just left it at that. The sun will set and the reflection will disappear leaving me with only my imagination.
