Crystal Ball

Tallahassee / Quincy, Florida

This is one of my favorite “self Portrait” images and it appeared originally on July 8th, 2005 as a “Freaky Friday” self portrait in my PAD gallery for that month. (The gallery can be found here. http://www.pbase.com/j_nasche/jul05 )

I was playing around with an extra wide-angle lens and thinking about how I almost never used that lens as it was almost “fish eye”, distorting about everything I photographed. I realized that it would distort an image so horribly; it would almost look like it was inside a crystal ball. The creative lights flashed!

I quickly set up the camera and moved in very close for the self portrait, purposely distorting my hands and face. I then took a second image (non-distorted) of a simple crystal ball in its holder displayed with a little candle. Then with some careful and creative blending n Photoshop, I blended the two images together.

Voila!

Myself trapped inside a crystal ball!

Being creative and just “having fun” can sometime produce wonderful images!
