some of us were thinking of looting, but that is a good point about the stench probably being bad.
RandyChimp 12-Jan-2005 20:22
I agree with Lerato Khotso. if all you can think about is the smell, you have problems. i new people who have died!!!
Lerato Khotso 07-Jan-2005 09:14
"Mandy" come on!!People have died & many more still are & all you can think of is the smell..Now "Guess" watch the picture if you have a problem with them. These are meant for people who aren't ignorant and want to know whats happening worldwide....SO CHILL!!!!
postman 05-Jan-2005 20:21
Nitengale, you've got to be kidding!! ("I look at this and photos of Hiroshima pale in comparison. ")

The destruction of Hiroshima was TOTAL!! This is extremely bad, but nowhere near the devastation of Hiroshima.
Eduardo Rodriguez 03-Jan-2005 17:47
¿Does somebody can tell me under what kind of Justice this natural event happened?
Guest 03-Jan-2005 11:13
hard to tell, but what i think i'm seeing here (and stop me if i'm off base) is copius amounts of what appears to be a brown frothy liquid moving at a tremendous speed carrying loads of debris. looking even closer i think i can make out a light/white colored jeep with some type of 'tire' on the back. it also appears the jeep has back seats. to the seven forty five position of the jeep also appears to be some type of large 'palm' tree. also lovely pinks, oranges and blues.
nightengale 02-Jan-2005 15:25
This photo is one of the most heartbreaking- total destruction. I look at this and photos of Hiroshima pale in comparison. And I don't know if it is me- but are there people in the jeep- it looks like two forms in the back? And the rest of the photo is just utter chaos- shreds of lives. Nothing could have survived such forces..and if they did- they survived for a reason.....maybe to give us some hope in miracles..there are not many....and not enough...peace and prayers to all who lived through this and are witnessing the aftermath.....
ugaitz13 02-Jan-2005 13:26
this is a CATASTROFE!!!!!!!!i think about in that photo are in the water about 1000 people!!we can see,but they are! :(
Lynn 01-Jan-2005 03:48
This disaster is truly devastating and heartbreaking. I, like so many of us, cannot even begin to imagine what this would have been like to experience. I'm glad for this picture and the others on this site because it makes me realize the hardships these people are going through and it sure as hell makes the "problems" in my life seem so minute and unimportant.
I've been looking at this picture for a few minutes and reading the comments. I'm wondering if there is another person in this picture who appears to me to be alive. If you look straight up (12:00 position) from that pink lilo you see what seems to be a person with one arm wrapped around a large stick and the other arm placed on the head. I'm wondering if I'm the only one who sees this.
May many prayers go out to the many devastated families affected by this tragedy.
Elizabeth 01-Jan-2005 01:43
I did not see a human face but at 11:00 from the spare tyre of the jeep, just past the group of debris and in the clearing, to the right of the styrofoam and directly right to the stick is what appears to be a ghost or angelic face.
guest 31-Dec-2004 20:46
12:00 to the spare tire on the white jeep is a mans face sticking up out of the water.
6:00 to the spare tire on the white jeep is a mans bald head between some sticks.
And yes, but the pink inflatable raft is a baby.
Guest 31-Dec-2004 20:29
Those probably are bodies, consider the odds. 100,000 humans to about 500 mannequins (I'm just guessing there are 500 mannequins total in those areas)
guest 31-Dec-2004 05:14
look right behind the jeep where the spare tyre is what kind of animal is that?
moomin 31-Dec-2004 02:43
Looks like one or two dead people at the 2 o'clock position from the SUV. But hard to tell. There are far worse pictures in the New York Times today of just piles of bodies out in tropical conditions for days... Saw similar images after the last tsunami disaster in Papua New Guinea in 1998. It was a big story in Australia at least. About 6000 people were killed...
Guest 31-Dec-2004 00:38
I think it's only right that people should see this... We in America take life soo for granted and we can spend billions of dollars to kill people in tbe name of "Freedom" but when it comes to the reality of death we think it's sick. Of course Americans can go to the movies and watch people die (it's only a movie)and our children can kill people in video games... Reality is harsh at times and Americans should thank god that this is not the reality they live. They should show this on TV......
Terry 31-Dec-2004 00:36
Why the American- or Euro-bashing? Go back to your blogs for that kind of rubbish. Half the comments "supposedly" by Americans are probably NOT by Americans and are to wind the rest of you up. Even if the nasty comments ARE by Americans, so what? It isn't representative of the country, just as Al-Qaeda isn't representative of Muslims, Hitler isn't representative of Germans, and the National Front isn't representative of the British. These photos SHOULD be making us feel compassion for those who have suffered, and be thankful that WE WEREN'T THERE. As Alysse said below, Mother Nature is indifferent to our nationalities, so think about the human loss here and how you can help, not how you can push your nationality above others by pushing everyone else down.

I am extremely sickened by the comments on this page. Why are there people sick enough to post the photos of the dead on the internet. Do people 'get off' on it? I accidentally clicked into one of these, not realising what it was. Luckily I saw what it was before actually taking in the image, but there are children out there who could be traumatised by them. Have you thought about that, you sick pups.

Are most of the people using this forum American. It'd make sense.
Guest 30-Dec-2004 23:16
This is a very low resolution image for the content you're trying to perceive. You might as well try to see corpses in the clouds, or the face on Mars...
Elizabeth 30-Dec-2004 21:10
He appears to be alive.
richvandam30-Dec-2004 19:19
i can't believe no-one hasn't noticed the kid in this picture,
2 o-clock from the jeep - to the right of the manequin - see the pink lilo? zoom right in! just below there is a kid it looks like with blond hair clutching onto some ruble!
Allyse 29-Dec-2004 21:36
Although I wasn't playing "where's waldo" I did notice the "bodies" and being a clothing store owner I agree they are mannequins. Also based on the debris these are the contents of the beach tourist shops which would explain the mannequins. I can barely make out the dog mentioned on the purple chair but if you look at the very bottom right hand corner there is either a dog or cat popping it's head out of the water. With so much devastation and loss lets look for ways to help instead of dogging out others religious beliefs or "morbid curiosity". If you weren't curious you wouldn't have clicked on these pictures so get over your high and mighty horse and while you are looking at the destruction remember to hug your kids, your parents whatever.. Mother Nature doesn't care what you believe in or who you side with politically... it's a roll of the dice!
schmuck 29-Dec-2004 20:36
this sort of Ordeal. Sorry for typo.
schmuck 29-Dec-2004 20:17
This looks like a trailer park in East L.A. after a hard rain, let alone a tsunami. I ask, "How many obese Americans would survive this sort of ideal."
Guest 29-Dec-2004 20:10
Mannequins?? People, get with reality here.
Joe 29-Dec-2004 17:51
Jesus is coming soon.
Bill 29-Dec-2004 13:42
Kids, please show some respect. Stop playing "Where's Waldo?" with the deceased.
Joe 29-Dec-2004 10:25
I think the bodies are not bodies at all, but mannequins. I don't know about the red haired woman, but the man in the black shirt definitely is a mannequin.

Alternatively, bloated bodies look nothing like the real thing. I wouldn't know as I've never seen a bloated body.

What's this about a dog?
Kate 29-Dec-2004 05:19
I don't think those are two bodies, most likely mannequins from a store. Look straight out from the front of the jeep, just below what looks like a big red cooler, you can see a store window mannequin with no head. It looks just like the two "bodies" that previous commenters pointed out.

Truly tragic pictures nonetheless.
Elizabeth 29-Dec-2004 04:26
If you must know, I spotted the LV luggage while searching for corpses, didn't spot any, and then mentioned the bags. I did see what slightly resembled corpses but not enough to say so. However, at about 8 o'clock from the jeep there is a dark purple lounge chair floating in the water. Notice what appears to be in the lounge chair - I think its a living dog and one can just make out its snout and one of its eyes.
Richard D Purcell 29-Dec-2004 03:48
I don't know if these pics can help in the identification process, you know hair color, clothes color; but I think you're right about that body w/ the red hair floatin' face down next to the jeep w/ the blue shirt.
I think there's another one at about 2-o-clock from the jeep between the 3 blue objects w/ black hair and a black shirt.
Maybe someone should send this photo to the proper authorities and maybe help someone with a little closure.
Just a thought.

is that a body floating face down next to the jeep ? I think I see what appears to be a few in this picture.
bobby 28-Dec-2004 23:35
Liz....how many autos?
higgi 28-Dec-2004 23:35
u should be ashamed of yourself... People are dying and having their lifes ruined, and you're glad that your computer is'nt able to pick up the smell? I would reaaaally feel sorry for you if todays computers could pick up the smell...
Lionel 28-Dec-2004 23:20
With all the due respect, Elisabeth, who gives a s... about your surreal Vuitton's inventory ?! (will you count corpses on the next one ?)
Mandy 28-Dec-2004 05:21
I'm just glad computers can't pick up accompanying smells. I imagine the stench would be terrible.
Elizabeth 28-Dec-2004 02:09
I can make out three Louis Vuitton bags in this photo. Is this a lagoon? If those people were swept into this lagoon they probably survived.
