Honoring the Past

Berlin's Jewish Cemetery was founded in 1671 and is the oldest cemetery in the inner city. In 1943/44 tombs and gravestones were ruthlessly destroyed and desecrated on the orders of the Gestapo. A slot trench was cut through the center of the cemetery and reinforced with historic gravestones after the remains of the dead were thrown out.

I think this works better -- it draws a stronger contrast between the stones piled on the grave marker and the somewhat distracted group in the background. In the previous version, the stones were hardly visible.

I once again took Phil's advice and cropped this image creating a horizontal orientation to replace the original vertical one.

This might work more effectively if you moved in on those stones that recall the past, and played them against the people ignoring those memories in the background. You can crop the picture just beneath the stones, making it a horizontal rather than a vertical image.
