Block of Women

Showing protesting and mourning women, this sculpture, created by Ingeborg Hunzinger, is in memory of the 1943 Rosenstrasse protest in which non-Jewish wives demanded the return of their Jewish husbands who had been arrested for deportation. It serves as a monument to the courage of the women who put their lives at risk to secure the freedom of their husbands. The protest was peaceful, none of the participants was punished.....the men were released!

See how the details "Pop" once you cropped in on the monument? It is so much the stronger for it.

I took Phil's recommendation and cropped this image to reveal more details.

An eloquent memorial, made even more haunting by the moss of time. The meaning of scenes such as this can usually be enhanced by including less of the subject in the frame, and stressing the most powerful faces, figures, and lighting.
