The Gate keeper - Pyronia tithonus!

At last my Butterflies are about and we seem to have loads on the thistles at the bottom of our field! They caught me by suprise in my 10 minute grab this morning of the camera, It needed to be on a tripod which I didnt have with me oops!

So that's called a Gatekeeper? Thanks for the info - it won't be just a "brown butterfly" next time I see it!

Very nice capture even without a tripod.
I can't use a tripod with insects, they are all over the place!

It probably would have been gone by the time you set up your tripod! You made a great shot anyway. Nice colors and detail. V
