"A place for private prayer... this is the Memorial Chapel of the East Lancashire Regiment, now the Queen's Lancashire Regiment.
Many local men served with distinction and pride in many battles. The banners depicting these campaigns are trailed above the entrance and from the screen.
There is displayed a book containing the names of those who lost their lives in the Second World War.
St Martin, who is depicted in the engraved glass, was a soldier following his father into the army.
He became a Christian, left the army and became a monk, later becoming the Bishop of Tours.
"In the east wall is a small statue of Martin, wearing a bishop's mitre with the shepherd's crook in his hand.
The east window in this chapel is typical of the glorious colour and shape which John Hayward, the artist, was able to bring about in his treatment of glass.
When the sun shines through, there is a wealth of light, shadow and colour, bringing about a quite exquisite display.
Sadly, similar glass within the lantern tower had to be removed."
