February 23, 2005: Sensual Glow

Windsor, ON, Canada

Getting my feet wet with a hair light. I'm going to need barndoors or a honeycomb grid on the hair light to get the effect I want without light spilling onto the skin

(Note to self: save some $$ from your next paycheck..)

Still, I love the effect.

Canon EOS 20D ,Alien Bees B800 (main),Alien Bees B800 (hair)
1/200s f/8.0 at 42.0mm iso100 full exif

other sizes: small medium large auto

Hi,
I just started studio photography, got my lighting kit but not getting anywhere yet.
I like how you handle the fill lights (is it set in 45 deg angle behind and tilt up?), did you use the model light here... sorry to ask i just want to know...hope you don't mind. Lucky for you, you have a beautiful wife and a model.

Very nice Ray. For another very interesting and beautiful effect, (nude or non nude), place the light directly behind Sharon aimed at the back of her hair. Directly behind her, not high shining down. You want the light even with her head or perhaps a little lower. (Shoulders) The light that spills over will rim light her hair and her body with a beautiful glow. Placing he light carefully will prevent any light from hitting the lens directly. The best effect is achieved by not allowing any part of the light or light stand to show. Not trying to sound like a popular American cereal commercial here, but "Try it, ... you'll like it!"
