January 31, 2005: Red-shouldered Hawk

Windsor, ON, Canada

The one month anniversary of my PAD gallery deserves a great catch and the story behind it..

My wife and I were driving to the pet store to buy some dogfood. As usual, I had my camera with me and saw this guy sitting on an electric wire in the distance, off a busy road.

I swung around and pulled off to the side of the road, not paying attention to where I had stopped. I fired off a burst of 3 shots as we usually do, "just in case" the subject flies off.

Well, to my chagrin, I had pulled into what I thought was a snowbank which was really a sideroad ditch. Luckily, 3 of my wheels were still on solid, level ground and after a bit of kicking the snow out of the way, I backed out quite easily.

In any case, this Red-shouldered Hawk was well worth the drama. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the chase. :)
