Penguin Parade, Phillip Island, VIC

Please excuse the blurriness, but it was probably fairly dark when I took this shot of Fairy Penguins, the largest such colony in the world, scampering across the beach from the ocean to their burrows on land. It’s a very popular and pretty amazing event that takes place every evening around sunset, and it’s the only picture I have of it and was just too charming to leave out.

Out of the ordinary, posted earlier

It is a nice capture. It is amazing how a wave comes and suddenly as mushrooms the penguins are on the beach and start going towards their nests. V.

You got a better shot of them than I did many years ago before this scene because a tourist trap.
I remember one of the penguins walking right over my foot! The ranger told us (a total group of about a half dozen) to stand still (behind the rope) & just let the penguins do their thing. But the penguins came over to us on their own. Although I have three 35mm shots of them, I didn't get very good of photos of these delightful Fairy Penguins in the low light. It was darker the night we were there than your photo above. I was also hesitant to move at all. Still, I'll always carry the memory of that night, long before bleachers were added and tickets sold for large crowds to now witness Nature at her finest. Great sbot in the low light.

Very cool photo. The bit of blurriness makes the image more charming, in my opinion.

It is a sight that has to be seen... your shot really captures that amazing moment when they emerge from the sea and head on shore. Amazing! V

They arrive at sunset so you are probably right in stating the lack of light. Much has been done to protect them over the past 40 years. You can still witness them by purchasing a ticket to a designated area. Most often called Fairy Penguins due to their small size...still a lovely photo of the area as well as the little guys.

The image has a neat painterly quality to it!

Wow. I had no idea there were penguins in Australia! I thought they were all in Antarctica.

They're so cute. We saw some of them on Kangaroo Island in 2009. ~V~
