National Mall transformed

This art exhibition blankets the National Mall with more than 670,000 white flags, showing the magnitude of our loss as a nation while honoring each person who has died from COVID-19.

Everybody has seen the constantly rising number of people who have died of COVID in the US – 688,000 as of September 26 -- and I think to a certain extent people have become numb to it. But seeing it represented so graphically reminds that the victims weren’t numbers but real people with families and lives and hopes and dreams and that they’re all gone now, in so many instances unnecessarily.

The flags stretched almost as far as the eye can see in several directions, and the sheer enormity of it was overwhelming.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by PBase are decidedly
unsharp.

A powerful reminder of the destruction from the pandemic. This capture tells a story of a tragedy that has become worse than it had to be. Very poignant with the scope of loss reflecting the political disfunction and the pushing of disinformation by so many. VV

And yet, close to 50% of all Americans chose to not get the vaccine that can save their lives, wear a mask for protection, until they get the virus, and they willingly chose to die! I just don't get it, choosing death over getting a vaccine and protection!!! This image sure reflects the magnitude of the problem and unless it changes ...

A disturbing memorial, which is already sadly out of date, as the death toll now stands at over 700,000 https://ncov2019.live/

A most stunning image and just reflecting a terrible, and in many cases (non-vaxers) a somewhat self-inflicted, tragedy

WOW! Thank you for sharing this. While I know that the number is way too big, this really does put it into perspective. I look at the size of the people in the background and they are way smaller than ants! My heart aches. BV
