Harper House (1775-1782)

Seen on the way down from Jefferson Rock, the Robert Harper House, built between 1775 and 1782, is the oldest surviving structure in the Lower Town of Harpers Ferry. It bears the name of Robert Harper, who established the town of Harpers Ferry and died before the house was completed. The porches were added at a later date. For some old pictures of the house, go to http://www.loc.gov/resource/hhh.wv0163.photos?st=gallery

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

Beautiful architecture. One thing that we liked about living in Maryland was the fact that even among the newer homes there were fewer cookie-cutter houses that look alike. This is a fantastic capture. I love the crisp detail and colors. BV

the porches add a lot to the house's appearance....clever framing here to include the snippet of stone wall..

I would like to think I would still be standing after all these years. :-)
