Me and the heron

I imagine my Pbase friends must be sick of seeing this heron by now ;-), but we keep returning to Constitution Gardens to see how he’s doing, and if he’s even still there given the snow, sub-zero wind-chill temperatures and downright Polar weather we’ve been having over the past few weeks.

So back we went on Sunday and didn’t see him anywhere, not on the little island where he usually sits and not in the frozen part of the lake. Suddenly, we saw him standing next to a low footbridge, near a group of people who were oblivious to him. We went over there, and it turned out, he was oblivious to us, too, because I was standing about six feet from him when I took a series of pictures, including the portrait below.

Best to view in "Original" because other versions resized by Pbase are decidedly unsharp.

There is something really appealing about this lovely shot, you watching the heron who is watching the water. V

I'm amazed that he let you get this close!!! It's really close!!! All the herons I've ever photographed have been skitzy and quick to flee; unless humans stay about a zillion miles away. Or at least big glass distance. You have a perfect wildlife model with your friend in the photo.
