Katz grocery store, 1940s, now private residences

This house on Constitution and 10th Street NE obviously used to be a retail place of business judging by the angled front of the building, where a door used to be.

A real estate broker neighbor gave me a letter that included old photographs and information on our immediate neighborhood. It was written by Betty Junge, who was born in 1927 in what is now his house on the 100 block of 10th Street NE. Ironically, he read of her recent death while sitting in the room where she was born.

Mrs. Junge described our neighborhood back in the 1930s and ’40s and said this building hosted the Katz grocery store, partially shown in the picture below, which I would guess must have been taken after the war, given that she was born in 1927 and looks like a young woman in the image.

A nice image of this building. I notice the trim just below the roof edge is the same on the green and gray buildings. Windows are also the same. I wonder of it was all one building or just all built at the same time by the same architect. Very attractive buildings in any case, but I do think a window would have been nice where the door used to be. V

A good looking building. Interesting they didn't put windows to replace the original entrance.
