“White Rhinoceros,” Umgodi Hide, Zimanga Private Game Reserve, Mkuze, South Africa, by Charl Senekai, Mkuze, South Africa. This image was NPB Africa Winner in the Mammals/Portraits category.
Says Senekai: “White rhinos are quite active after dark. Dual light banks had been set up on either side of a hide at a waterhole to illuminate the scene, allowing wildlife to approach at their own pace. The wind was still, creating near-perfect reflections of those animals as they drank.”
Although still distracting, the reflections were impossible head on, especially with that black background, so I tried shooting this at an angle, unfortunately losing the full effect of the photograph. It was pretty spectacular, though!
